Members of the Maxwell Committee described with admiration Dr. Glenn Hutchinson’s history of supporting and mentoring peer writing tutors across a number of contexts, ranging from presenting at conferences–like NCPTW–with tutors, to acknowledging tutor success on his local campus, to amplifying tutor leadership in the Center for Excellence in Writing at Florida International University. Additionally, he has a strong publication record, commitment to collaboration both in the United States and internationally, and a history of civic engagement.
In the words of past consultant Nicole Larraguibel, Dr. Hutchinson’s “leadership has inspired tutors to become presenters, researchers, mentors, and leaders within the writing center community, and his influence continues long after students graduate.” As evidence in Manuel Degadillo’s letter of support, his leadership triangulates expertise in writing center research, mentorship, and social justice work: “Dr. Hutchinson’s sense of compassion, professionalism, academic integrity, and empathy makes him an exceptional candidate for the award [both] as a humanist and a person who is deeply embedded in social justice causes.”
